BlackFish
Blackfish or Tautog are common to our waters. They are typically found in shore near the bottom and generally are found in areas where there is some structure such as rocks, wreaks, pilings, bridges, etc.
Blackfish are typically in the 4 – 8 pound range with an occasional fish in the teens. The world record Blackfish is 28.8 pounds.
At one time the Blackfish were not as plentiful as they are today due to over fishing. In the southern waters of the US the Blackfish is still considered to be Overfished.
Blackfish are delicious eating and highly sought after by commerical and sports fishermen alike.
